The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) is a learner-centered, shared service organization that is responsible for the management of registration and the stewardship of academic records – past, present, and future.

SRU’s Office of the University Registrar is an operating unit of the Division of Enrollment Management. Our mission is to support the Springfield Research University’s strategic direction by providing quality support to SRU students, faculty, academic and administrative departments, alumni, and the general public.

The Office is committed to the SRU’s values of innovation, inclusion, and impact in fulfilling its core responsibilities of class and classrooms scheduling, registration management, student–records maintenance, graduation; and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and privacy of student data and academic records.

The Office is dedicated to actualizing high ethical and professional standards; to observing University, national regulations; to seeking out new and better ways of doing business; to leveraging technology in supporting our constituents; and to providing high–quality, student–centered support that is courteous, consistent, timely, inclusive, and respectful.

TO ACHIEVE THIS MISSION, WE:

Provide learners with accurate and comprehensive records of their educational experiences under the University’s purview and authority, as reflected in transcripts, paper and digital diplomas, certificates or other forms of representation, enrollment and degree verifications, and other credentials documenting student work.

Observe the common academic calendar, and publish the annual web-based Catalog that describes academic offerings and learning opportunities along with the attendant policies of the University. We oversee course scheduling, curriculum management, registration, grading and auditing systems and structures that contribute to recording learning, academic achievement, degree and program progress and completion.

Contribute to the development, governance and use of systems and applications that collect, manipulate, distribute and report data involving participation and completion in academic programs and other learning opportunities. We supply those data to appropriate investigators for continuous improvement in program quality and design, to cognizant regulators and authorities, and to approved stakeholders and constituencies of the University, including certifying agencies.

Administer and protect the privacy of our learners and the confidentiality of their records per the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). We strive to provide best-of-class services utilizing the latest cutting-edge technology to make the experience of students, staff, and faculty, more intuitive and seamless in accordance to their expectations.

SPRINGFIELD RESEARCH UNIVERSITY

The Office of Academic Advising at SRU has three main areas of focus:

ACADEMIC ADVISING AND SUPPORT

SRU’s advising program is based on a cooperative and under- standing relationship between the students and advisors. Under the SRU Plan, students have the final responsibility for designing their own educational experience at SRU which includes understanding all their degree requirements and making sure all those requirements have been satisfied for graduation. The role of the Faculty advisor is to help his/her advisees design a program of study which reflects the students’ interests and professional goals. While advisors are willing to suggest specific programs of study, they will not insist that students follow a particular path. Advisors also help students choose among academic alternatives, help them interpret catalog requirements and review degree audits and grade reports with them. Students are expected to understand these documents and their implications for academic progress and act accordingly.

Therefore, it is critical that students take the initiative to consult  regularly with their academic advisors.

GENERAL ACADEMIC ADVISING:

Students can come to the Office of Academic Advising to get general advising help in areas such as course selection, academic status concerns, major and advisor selection, and individualized academic coaching. The Office of Academic Advising oversees programming for the First Year, including the Insight Program and the Insight Wellness course.

The academic coaching program includes counseling from an Academic Advisor in areas such as learning styles, effective study strategies, problem solving and critical thinking skills, and time management. Students work on setting their academic goals, discovering their strengths and weaknesses, and designing learning and study strategies that work best for them.
